This week, news came out that current Mountain West Conference member, Air Force, plans to join the Big East in football.
The Falcons are looking into joining the Missouri Valley or the WAC for their other sports, which would put the WAC at 11 total schools.
Air Force, a perfect location for another WAC doesn't offer much in terms of creating a more stable conference. The Falcons would not join in football (which is what the WAC needs right now) and adding them as a non-football member would create an odd-numbered field.
I hope to see the WAC (in the near future) add a strong football playing school to make eight and give the conference more credibility. In my opinion, Southland Conference schools Lamar or Sam Houston State would make great additions.
Although Lamar is new in football, their other sports are strong and would compete well in the WAC. Sam Houston State is currently ranked No. 12 in the FCS and also has a couple of programs that would fit in.
It will be interesting to see who the WAC goes after in the coming months. I've heard they do expect to add one more school before the 2012 football season.
