Texas State fall sports update

This semester has been a great time to be a Bobcat! Here is what has been going on in Bobcat sports the past three months:

The Texas State women's soccer team advanced to their fifth NCAA Tournament since 1999 and will face Baylor on Saturday in Waco. The team slipped by Sam Houston State in the semifinals of the Southland Conference Tournament, winning 3-1 in penalty kicks. In the finals, the Bobcats upset No. 1 SFA, 1-0.

The Bobcat volleyball team has had one of their most successful seasons in school history, going 22-7 with two regular season matches remaining. The team is currently tied for first in the SLC but can move ahead of UTSA with a win tonight against the Roadrunners.

The Texas State cross country teams showed much improvement from the 2010 season with two athletes capturing all-conference honors at the SLC Championships. The Bobcat women will head to Waco this weekend to compete in the South Central Regional after finishing the season ranked No. 9 in the region. The Bobcat men earned their first ranking of the year after the SLC Championships with the No. 15 spot.

The Bobcat football team has had ups and downs throughout the season. The team proved they could compete with FBS schools through a majority of the 60 minutes. However, the outcomes proved to be less promising. After starting 0-2 to open the season, the Bobcats went on a five-game winning streak before falling to two Southland opponents. With two games remaining in the 2011 season, the Bobcats will look to end their season on a positive note.
